Shelly Glick and Don Bowers who were designer/engineers at Bozak and became final owners, approached the manufacturer of Alps potentiometers in Japan. They had the Military grade RK40 potentiometer designed with special resistance and slope characteristics specifically for replacement of the Allen Bradley control in the CMA 10-2DL mixer. The Alps/Bozak solder eye RK40 is a custom potentiometer built to Bozak's specifications licensed and available to Bozak only. The agreement for the custom produced potentiometers was for 5 years with a 1k minimum quantity orders. By 1983 Bozak was no longer in need for the quantities of 1000 or more piece purchases and Alps offered UREI a deal on the million duty cycle control. The newly designed potentiometer used original Alps specifications, had the mounting changed to pins, and produced large quantities for UREI. The early Noble brand potentiometer was removed from the UREI 1620 mixer and boards changed to support the new Alps RK40 pin design. The UREI style RK40 potentiometers are premium, but they are not the same as the Bozak custom designed potentiometer. Specifications for the Bozak potentiometers were never available from Alps and to this day are only known to lost records.
